Eight Quilts...Six Locations...One Day...June 23

I have several quilts out in exhibitions this summer. Because of the overlapping schedules, on June 23 I'll have eight different quilts in six different locations.

"Let a Hundred Flowers Bloom" is at the Ohio Craft Museum, 1665 W. Fifth Avenue in Columbus, although June 23 is the last day. It will move on to the Wayne Center for the Arts in Wooster, Ohio from July 12-August 18 and then to the Fitton Center for Creative Arts in Hamilton, Ohio from September 14-November 9.

"Sacred Heart Church #1" and "Dayton Skyline #6" are both part of the Dayton Landmark Quilts. The other 20 panels were made by members of the Miami Valley Art Quilt Network. These quilts are at the Schuster Performing Arts Center in Dayton, Ohio, but only until June 24. They will be in other locations this summer and fall.

"Early Morning Nine Patch - Montana Sky" is in "The View," the annual landscape competition at the Rosewood Arts Centre, 2655 Olsen Drive in Kettering, Ohio. That show runs until July 6. This quilt won "Best in Show."

"Zig Zag Twist" and Dancing Geese are included in the Monday Morning Artists' Exuberance exhibit at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery, 111 Corry St. in Yellow Springs until July 14. If you come to Yellow Springs to see this exhibit, be sure to go across the street to visit Village Artisans where I'm one of 20 co-op artists.

"Sometimes I Dream of Flying" will be at The Good Earth, the annual art quilt exhibit at the Aullwood Audubon Center in Dayton, Ohio. That show starts on June 23 and ends on August 19.

"Inside of a Dog," an exhibit in the Dayton Art Institute's Experiencenter runs through April 2013. The museum is located at 456 Belmonte Park North in Dayton, Ohio.

Wanna go on a road trip? I've already planned the route, it's 90 miles and will take 2.25 hours for driving. Depending on how long you want to spend looking at the art, add half an hour to an hour per location. And don't forget time for lunch. And maybe dinner, too! (If you skip Columbus, it's 36.5 miles and takes 1.25 hours for driving.)

Yellow Springs Art Stroll: Being 2 places at once

This friday is the Art Stroll/3rd Friday Fling and there are a lot of art happenings here in Yellow Springs. In fact, I'm supposed to be at two galleries that night, Village Artisans and the YS Arts Council Gallery. Luckily they're right across the street from each other so I can run from one to the other and back again.



The show at the YS Arts Council Gallery, located at 111 Corry St., is a group show from the Monday Morning Artists. We are a group of artists who meet the first Monday of every month to work on our art. Some people paint while others draw with pastels. Theresa usually cleans her glass lampwork beads and I'm often working on some sewing project.

The theme of the group show is "Exuberance" and it will be in the gallery from June 15 through July 14. The gallery is open Weds. through Sat. from 1-4 pm. There will also be five different workshops, each offered on a different Sat. You can check the website above for info on the workshops.

The gallery will be open for the artists reception during the June Art Stroll from 6-9 pm.  I'll also be there on Sat., June 23 from 1-4 pm to gallery sit while Libby does her "Watercolor Sketches" workshop.

I was recently invited to join the local artisans co-op, Village Artisans. They are a collective of 20 fairly local artist who create unique, handmade art. The shop is located at 100 Corry St. in Yellow Springs and is open 7 days a week. Check the link for the specific hours, although if you come between noon-5 pm, we should be open.

The gallery will be open for the June Art Stroll from 6-9 pm for "Meet the new artisan" (that would be me).  They also have a Red Hot Red Dot sale this month.  Next month I'll be the featured artists and have my art hanging in the lobby all month. The reception for that show will be July 20.

June a busy month for quilt shows

There are a lot of opportunities this month to view lots of quilts. None of mine, not this time, anyway!

Street Fair in Yellow Springs

It's time once again for the Yellow Springs Street Fair, this Saturday, June 9 from 9 am-5 pm.

We're at booth #185 (if you're facing the Little Art, we'll be on the right). The Yellow Springs Street Fair is located on State Route 68 in downtown Yellow Springs.

My art quilt "Early Morning Nine Patch - Montana Sky" is included in the 18th Annual Juried Landscape Competition, "The View" at the Rosewood Arts Centre Gallery, 2655 Olson Dr. in Kettering. The show runs from June 11-July 6 and the gallery is open Mon.-Thurs. from 8 am-9 pm, Fri. from 8 am-6 pm and on Sat. from 9 am-3 pm. There will be an artist reception this Sun., June 10 from 2-4 pm.

Since they only selected 61 pieces of art from the 274 pieces submitted, this is quite an honor.

I also had some note cards of this quilt professionally printed and I'm very pleased with they way they turned out.

Feather art quilts and notecards featured in Art Quilting Studio Magazine

My "Feather" art quilts and the professionally printed note cards of them are featured in Art Quilting Studio's Magazine's Summer 2012 issue.

The article covers my inspiration for the quilts, some of the techniques I used to make them (including some simplified directions), and how to have professional-printed note cards made of the quilts.

Art Quilting Studio is only published two times a year but is packed full of new quilting techniques and innovative design ideas. It is one of many publications put out by Stampington & Company. According to their website, Marco's Paper in Centerville, Ohio carries some (but not all) of their publications, so if you want to buy it there, contact them first. I've heard it's available at some Joann stores. Or you can order it from the Stampington website.

Even though Marco's Paper doesn't sell fabrics, it is one of my favorite art stores. They have many wonderful scrapbooking, stamping, and paper items available.
